Site Selection Committee:  The Site Selection Committee is responsible for seeking out property (land or buildings) that can support habitat projects. Current members and communities they cover are:

Steve Mayo  (stevemayo@remaxexec.com) Chair)  - North Attleboro, Foxboro, Wrentham,

Glenn Weidner (grweid@cs.com)                            - Attleboro, Seekonk, Rehoboth

Cory Fellows (Cory@keencorp.com)                       - Mansfield, Plainville, Norton,  Norfolk,

Due to the high cost of land in the area, the most viable source of properties is through donation. To date, the cities of Attleboro and Norton have donated town-owned lots for the construction of homes for up to six families.  Four of these homes are complete, and two more will be constructed in Norton in FY 2004.

Our Challenge:  Our affiliate’s strategic plan calls for construction of 15 additional homes from 2004 through 2008.  This places a challenge on our committee to obtain land or restorable buildings at least one year before each home’s construction can begin.  Therefore, we ask for your help in pointing us towards properties in any of our ten serviced communities that can be acquired either through donation or at below-market prices.

Advantages: In addition to aiding needy families, the advantages of donation for towns/cities include adding to affordable housing inventories and returning dormant property to the municipal tax base.  For individual donors, the market value of the property can be a tax-deductible donation for charitable purposes.

Professional Help:  Our committee will evaluate properties from both the technical and financial viewpoints.  We need the help of experts on zoning, real estate, conservation, and engineering (construction) to help us determine that a lot is both buildable and viable as a homesite for a low-income family.  If you have expertise in any of these areas, and would like to become an advisor or member of the committee, please contact one of our members at their e-mail addresses above.
